Unexpected Intros: Carlota Javier

C14 Barcelona's art director on her start in product design and her love for music documentaries

Unexpected Intros: Carlota Javier

At DDB, we have a simple belief. That Unexpected Works. It means that the best idea is the one you never saw coming. The thing that catches you so off guard that you can‘t look away. And the only path to genuinely unexpected works is through creativity.

And in order to create awesome works, you need awesome people. Because you can’t make the unexpected if you only work with the usual suspects. In this Unexpected Intros series, we take a peek behind the curtain at some of the diverse thinkers that make up our network and validate Bill Bernbach’s notion that an idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

1. Name, Title, Office

Carlota Javier, art director, C14 Barcelona, DDB Spain.

2. Introduce yourself in three emojis

3. What was your very first job?

I guess it was singing on Christmas for my family! hahah.

4. How did you wind up in advertising?

I studied product design but I always had this special thing with selling my product once designed with a story behind it, so I kept making videos and thinking about the best creative way to sell it and… Here I am!

5. Piece of creative that inspires you?

Oh! It’s impossible to choose just one… I love Rimowa’s art direction in general, Alessandro Michele’s art direction on The Gucci Twinsburg Fashion Show was amazing too…

Frank Lebon’s photography, Lotta Volkova’s works are so unexpected and cool.. There’s too many things! ahaha

6. What are you currently reading, watching, and listening to?

I’m reading Life and Human destiny by Thorwald Dethlefsen.

I'm constantly watching music documentaries (The last one was Nick Cave’s 20.000 Days on Earth it’s so good!)

And I’m listening lately to The Strokes. Makes me so happy!

7. What’s a goal/hope/dream of yours?

My goal in life is to be happy (obviously) and working on something that inspires me and other people. I’m so happy with my job right now and my team, I would love to keep working hard and grow little by little to create amazing stuff and always BIG things!
