Publicis Groupe UK is launching Boomerang UK – bringing the Amsterdam-headquartered social first creative agency to the UK for the first time.
The new agency, Boomerang UK, will be based in Publicis Groupe UK’s Chancery Lane office, with a team including managing director Pauline Landa and executive creative director, Rico de Lange. Boomerang is the Netherlands’ largest social first creative agency, describing themselves as “street-smart and social by nature”.
Acquired by Publicis Groupe in 2021, the UK will be Boomerang’s first market entry outside The Netherlands.
Annette King, CEO of Publicis Groupe UK, said: “We all know that what works on one social platform is different to what works on another – making the creative fit for the platform is the biggest performance lever available to our clients. Boomerang is an agency with social in its DNA, and a track record of delivering award-winning campaigns that connect organisations and brands with audiences and culture. The Boomerang acquisition has proved to be a great success in The Netherlands and Belgium and so it’s great we’re bringing this agency to the UK to benefit our clients.”
Clare Donald, chief production officer for Publicis Groupe UK, said: “Boomerang are the best in the business. Their experience in making content that resonates with audiences coupled with their dynamic production expertise and ability to fine tune creative content once it’s live, is second to none. Being able to utilise the skills and talents of their 200 copywriters, filmmakers, creatives, strategists, neuroscientists, influencers, sound designers and producers will significantly bolster our social content capabilities for our clients in the UK.”
Boomerang founder, Bo The, said: “Our mission is simple – we help brands become more human by sparking authentic conversations between organisations and their audiences. Our people are all immersed in culture, and help brands tap into what people want and how they want it. We’re excited to bring this know-how, coupled with our proprietary process that integrates data, insight and creativity at the speed of social, to clients in the UK.”
Pauline joined Boomerang in 2021 and has been head of account and project management. She was previously at Ogilvy in Amsterdam for five years, latterly running the Phillips global sponsorship business. She started her career at TBWA Neboko Downtown Amsterdam. She has won a multitude of awards at all the major industry awards including Cannes Lions, the Clios, Creative Circle Awards, The One Show, the International Influencer Marketing Awards as well as all the major Dutch creativity awards.
Rico, executive creative director, is a multidisciplinary creative with 16 years of experience. He was previously executive creative director for Boomerang in the Netherlands, after joining the agency in 2015. He has won a multitude of awards including several Cannes Lions, Effies, Lovies, Webby Awards, SAN Awards and The Best Social Media Awards. He started his career as a designer and art director for a below-the-line agency working for automotive brands including Mercedes-Benz. He remains Boomerang’s global executive creative director for Heineken International.
Pauline and Rico will be joined by associate creative director, Djajant Hanenberg and project management supervisor, Caroline Tenbult in London with other employees joining from the Amsterdam office later this year. Reporting to Clare Donald, Boomerang UK will be part of the Publicis Groupe UK production practice.
